Metro Retail Stores Group moves forward with aggressive expansion hosts the first Metro Valued Partners MVP Night

Over 700 retail suppliers and industry partners from various sectors – including banking and finance, mall developers, construction and telecommunications – were welcomed by METRO Retail Stores Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Frank Gaisano, and President and Chief Operating Officer Eduardo Ponce.
Mr. Ponce unveiled METRO’s move to soar to new heights by aiming to more than double its store network in the next three years.

From its current 42 multi-store formats comprised of METRO Department Stores, METRO Supermarkets, Super METRO Hypermarkets, and METRO Fresh ’n Easy neighborhood stores, the METRO retail chain embarks on an aggressive expansion plan of becoming 100 stores nationwide by 2017.

“We started small but we dream big,” said Mr. Ponce. From METRO’s first single and humble two-storey building in Cebu in 1982, METRO Retail Stores Group is now considered as a formidable retail chain with 42 stores nationwide. It continues to provide jobs for 7,000 employees and serves the needs of 130,000 satisfied customers everyday.

Mr. Ponce believes that METRO owes its success to its equally exceptional business partners. Hence, as a way of paying tribute to its valued partners, the MVP Night was made more meaningful by awarding the METRO Valued Partners Award to its top suppliers in the Supermarket and Department Store categories.
Indeed, METRO Retail Stores Group is all set to soar to greater heights in 2014, and beyond!
