Vicsal Gaisano Group opens 6th Super Metro at Colon on Feb. 27

SUPER Metro, the hypermarket format of the Metro Retail Group, will open on Thursday, Feb. 27 in downtown Colon, a move that will further advance the stronghold of the company in Cebu City’s traditional business district.
It will be the sixth hypermart that the Metro Retail Stores Group under Vicsal Development Corp. that will operate since July last year.
Super Metro Colon will complement the operations of the first Metro Department Store and Supermarket at corner Osmeña Blvd., that has been in operation for at least 31 years now, and Metro Wholesale at corner Pelaez St.
Company officials noted that the market downtown has not yet reached saturated levels and that the high foot traffic in the area encouraged them to open a hypermart.
Shoppers in downtown Cebu City with different needs and routines now have choices among the three Metro stores.

‘One trip’
The Metro Group introduced the Super Metro chain of hypermarts to allow shoppers a faster pace in buying the goods they need with all the convenience and necessary ambiance for ease and comfort.
A hypermarket like Super Metro is a retail concept that has a mix of 60 percent in grocery products and 40 percent in general merchandise. Most of the items are what customers would very likely need to grab right away.
With three decades of experience in retail operations, Super Metro has shifted customers’ orientation from traditional shopping to alternative and more comfortable modes in a compact setting.
“Super Metro is meant to satisfy customers with all their routine shopping needs in just one trip,” quipped Cesar Jose Jesena, Metro’s vice president for marketing and retail development.
The fast grind in contemporary living has changed the way people tackle with their usual routines to be abreast with competitiveness and meet the dynamics and necessities of everyday living, he explained.
“Super Metro promises super finds, super prices, super shopping,” he added.

Other services
While the Super Metro hypermarket concept is relatively new to the Metro Retail Group, an aggressive expansion program has been in progress in Luzon and the Visayas.
Such expansion does not only include opening new stores but also the introduction of other products and services in all Metro stores.

The Feb. 27 opening downtown will follow that of Super Metro Basak along the Cebu South Road in Basak San Nicolas and Mambaling area shortly before Christmas last year.
The first Super Metro opened in Bogo City last July 23, and resumed operations only a few days after Super Typhoon Yolanda ravaged northern Cebu in November.
